Over 9 years since amputation

Hi there

Another post on how Freya is still going A-OK.

Honestly, she amazes me every day.

She will be 18 years old in April and it is over 9 years since her amputation. She remains really too chonky for a tripawd but she is still quite healthy and her life is sleeping, eating and looking for pats.

We have both enjoyed the part of covid where I have been working from home. I have been able to see her days unfold (refer earlier comment on sleeping and eating) and enjoy her company. Her sleeping platform remains so popular.

The next favourite place is the heated sleeping pod. In winter she starts on the sleeping platform in the sun until it gets too hot for her and then she moves to the heated pod. Life is good.

Her age is beginning to tell though. She has two ways up to the bed at night and she can still hop up one way but the other way she now waits for me to pick her up and put her on the bed. Guess which one she wants at 3am? Gues which one she uses during the day?

Thank goodness I love her.

  1. I wondered how Freya was doing; she is an inspawration to all trikitties. Over nine years post-op and will be 18! Whoo-hoo, Freya! 👏🏻🎉🥳🙌🏻

Purrkins is hopping behind her; he is now 5.5 years post-op from the same sts. Freya continues to give us all HOPE. Freya’s platform is the cat’s meow!!!

Glad you could work from home time is a precious gift
    Thanks for the update!
    Scratches to Freya, please!

    1. Hi Holly and Purrkins

You do so much for your cute fellas. I love the photos and the videos. I feel quite slack by comparison.

I’ll go through some photos and put some up. I keep thinking of getting some video but Freya is truly settling into her golden years and mostly sleeps. I might get some of her hopping around though.

And congrats on 5 years post amputation Purrkins. Freya can’t believe it is over 9 years. In some ways it feels so long ago, but some days it feels like only yesterday

      Take care

  2. YAY!!! Oh wow you’re the 2nd Tripawds blogger with one of those no news is good news updates and we couldn’t be happier. Freya is a miracle on three paws and such an inspawration to us all. In fact this new member joined the other day and her vet said that her cat was simply too old to amputate–at age 12. I hope she sees this post because I can’t for the life of me find that post now to share the link!

Anyhoo, just glad that you are doing so well and Freya is rockin’ the senior life on 3. If you get a chance, share some pics, we’d love to see her!!

    1. Hi Jerry

I enjoy making those ‘nothing to see here’ posts to give some good news to those just beginning their journey with their loved companion. I know I consumed so many blogs at the time (I think there were only 3 or so cats on here then) and seeing thriving kitties was so inspiring. And Freya is a very senior kitty now, so even more important I think.

I’ll go through some recent photos and see what I can find. She is looking really good for her age. People think she is much much younger.

And I hope the new person with the senior kitty gets the support they need to make the right decision. I have had over 9 extra years with Freya and all of them directly related to the decision to amputate.

She is sleeping on her platform mext to me right now, and life is truly good.
